Make the Most of Summer in and around Crediton

As the weather improves and our muddy lanes at last start to dry out, it’s time to get outside and enjoy the sunshine.

Whether you enjoy walking in the gorgeous Mid Devon countryside, pottering in your garden or going to outdoor events, you’ll find loads of ways to make the most of summer on this website.

Here’s just a few of the open air events on our What’s On calendar.

The summer season opens with a double bill -  the popular Crediton Food & Drink Festival returns to the Town Square on Saturday 8th June followed by the Big Boniface Bash in Newcombes  Meadow on Sunday 9th June, a family fun day to celebrate Crediton’s most famous son.

On 15th June there will be Summer Opera at Downes, set on the terrace of this magnificent historic house just outside Crediton. From 27th May to 2nd June Downes will also be open for guided tours.

The delightful Busk It returns on 22nd June, when musicians take over the shops, cafes and alleyways of the High Street and Town Square for three hours of delicious sounds.

From 3rd to 6th July, Crediton Town Square will be transformed into an open air theatre for a joyous production of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, set in a modern day music festival.

There’s plenty going on indoors as well.  At the Parish Church the second CreditonArtsAlive Festival on 29th June will showcase local creative talent of all ages.  And, if you haven’t visited it yet, don’t miss the fascinating exhibition of ‘Customs, Charms and Cures’ at Crediton Museum, which is open Wednesday to Saturday until October.

There are also regular live music events, in the town and villages, which will continue through the summer. Whether you’re into jazz, folk or classical you’ll find something to suit you in our handy Guide to Regular Music Events.
