In his next blog about his favourite local walks, Tom Davies follows a 5 mile circular route, mainly on footpaths, from the Crediton Leisure Centre to Shobrooke and back again.
Mauve dashed line shows route

Starting from the car park at the Crediton Leisure Centre (A) follow the footpath along the north side of the sports fields reaching a footbridge over the Creedy. If you choose to do this walk in a clockwise direction then this is the point you will return to along the track on your right.

Next to Creedy near Shobrooke Park

Carry straight on to the Shobrooke road (B) and then turn left to the entrance to Shobrooke Park (C). Follow the Devonshire Heartland Way through the park along an avenue of lime trees to the road junction (D). Take the road towards Shobrooke but then veer right towards the church and Shobrooke Barton where you take a left turn along the road until you reach the footpath about 50m before the Holy Well on your right (E).

Shobrooke Barton & Church
The Holy Well

Two footpaths diverge from this point and you leave the Heartland Way here taking the path on the right along a field boundary, from where there is a splendid view of the Barton and church.

Footpath from Holy Well to Shobrooke

At the bottom of the hill you will rejoin the Heartland Way running alongside the Shobrooke Lake stream. Turn right and almost immediately through a small opening in the hedge on your left then over a footbridge (F) and head towards Pennicott Farm (G)

Turn right on the road and then right again within 50m, taking the signposted footpath through farm buildings and continue downhill rejoining the Heartland Way at (H). Turn left here and on reaching Shobrooke Mill Farm leave the Heartland Way  by turning right along the road to Shobrooke Church.

After passing a footpath sign on your left, climb the hill until you reach a second footpath sign on your left (I) which you take, walking across fields until you meet another road at (J)

Turn right and walk along the road to a footpath on your left (K) which you take, walking downhill along the field boundary until you reach a road at (L)

River Creedy

Turn right and very soon find a permissive footpath sign on your left (M). Take this path which soon meets the River Creedy and brings you back to the footbridge over the river and the Heartland Way where you retrace your steps back to (A).
