Are you a parent with a child under 5? Do you ever feel isolated with no family or friends nearby? Are you struggling with poor mental health, anxiety or postnatal depression? If so, help is at hand from a local charity Home-Start.
Life-changing events can happen to anyone. All parents struggle at one time or another and the pandemic has made life even more difficult for families with young children.
That is where Home-Start can help by providing a carefully selected, trained volunteer, with parenting experience, to offer emotional and practical support. This friendly parent-to-parent support is a simple yet effective way to enable families to get through their toughest times.
Home-Start launched in Mid Devon over a year ago and has already trained new volunteers and supported several families. At the moment all support is delivered remotely, by phone or online, due to the Covid restrictions. But this can still be very effective.
One mum who has been supported, was a single parent and was overwhelmed by the first lockdown, she was finding it difficult to manage. One of our volunteers called her each week to give her non-judgemental emotional support. By the end of the support she said, Thank you, it was really easy to get the help I needed and now I am in a much better place than even before lockdown started.
