Christmas is almost here and that means it's time to get your Christmas dinner ordered as we prepare for a festive feast. From butchers to farm shops, there are plenty of fantastic places to buy a local turkey, goose, duck or alternative. It’s time to get ready for Christmas 2021 and to place your order well in advance of the big day!
Turkey, geese, duck, beef etc
A.J. Cox Butchers has been serving the people of Crediton since the late 1800s. Originally located in Market Street, next to the Square, they moved to their current location in the early 1900s. They are taking orders now for anything Christmas related. You won’t find anything on the website as they are only taking orders in the shop itself. It’s best to get your order in as soon as possible.
Turkeys and geese
Orchard Farm can supply your dinner table with traditionally reared free range turkeys and geese for the Christmas market. Situated in some of Devon’s most beautiful countryside extending to 68 acres of cider orchards and pasture. Their focus has been to produce relatively small numbers of turkeys and geese using traditional farming methods with a priority on maintaining high welfare standards and allowing freedom to forage and expression of natural behaviour.

Duck and chicken
For an alternative to turkey and goose you can’t get much better than Creedy Carver Duck. Founded in 1985 by Peter and Sue Coleman and later joined by son James, Creedy Carver has specialised in producing the finest free range duck and chicken for over 30 years with a reputation for great flavour and a high meat yield which makes it a very popular choice for some of the UK’s top restaurants and chefs. You can buy direct from the website or call to pre-order and collect from the farm.
Gold standard turkeys and geese
A great place to go for a full range of fruit, vegetables, cheese, milk, yoghurts, meats, fish, hand-made bread and pastries. As much as possible this is grown or made locally. Everything for Christmas is available for pre-orders through an online form including local, gold standard turkeys and geese. They can also supply all your other Christmas meats - cooked and uncooked hams, pigs in blankets and sausage meat to name a few.
Free-range bronze turkeys and free-range geese
Exeter Turkey Farm is the home of Tasty Bird and based just outside Exeter at Glebelands Farm, Upton Pyne. They are a third generation family farm and have specialised in producing Christmas poultry since 1940.
Norfolk Black Christmas free-range organic turkeys
Wonnacott Farm is a small, traditional family-run farm. Paul and Rosie are the second generation to have the job of looking after the farm, keeping it alive, productive and in sympathy with the environment. They are best known for their traditional Norfolk Black Christmas free-range organic turkeys. Your order can be collected or delivered directly. Be sure to order in good time.
Acorn Farms produce lamb and beef from farm to fork. Their Farm, 2 miles outside North Tawton, covers 53 acres of grassland on which their herd of South Devon cattle graze. The farm is managed to encourage wildlife and promote the diverse wild flora and fauna found at Westworthy. Lamb and Beef boxes are supplied straight from the farm.
Organic turkey and chicken
A firm favourite at Crediton Farmer’s Market, Higher Hacknell Farm started farming organically in 1988. They produce their own food, vegetables from the garden, cider from the orchard and meat from their own animals. From just feeding their family in the beginning, they now deliver produce to homes nationwide. As well as your turkey, you can also get your sausages, sausage meat and other delicious treats.
