October is a time of year that marks the turning of leaves, cosy knits, the lighting of fires, and all things pumpkin! 

Visiting a pumpkin patch in October is becoming quite a popular tradition for many families. We have compiled a list of pumpkin patches that are open and anticipating your visit for some good family fun. Pack the camera, wellies (and maybe even gloves) and hit the road to enjoy a beautiful Autumn Day.

Halberton Court Farm Shop, Tiverton

Pick your own pumpkin at Halberton Court Farm Shop’s special patch. There are hundreds to choose from and eagle eyed pumpkin pickers have even been able to keep up with them growing via the YouTube channel

They are open Monday to Saturday (not Sundays) 8:30am - 5pm.

No booking is required. You only pay for the pumpkin you find. There is of course the added bonus of all the other delicious things on offer as well as the The Swans Neck Café which will open Monday to Saturday 10am to 4pm and offers special Pumpkin Syrup for your drinks!

Jolly Pumpkin, Silverton 

The popular Jolly Group are known for their fun family days out and their Jolly Pumpkin Patch is a real favourite. With over 50 varieties of Pumpkin, Squash and Gourd on offer you’re guaranteed to get something picture perfect! From wrinkly ones, knobbly ones, shiny pumpkins in an array of different shapes and sizes, to lumpy squashes and quirky gourds, they’re all waiting for you to find them.

It’s open until the 31 October 2021 between 10am and 5pm. Admission charge: £1 for visitors over three-years-old when booked online.  £2 on the gate.

Thorne’s Farm Shop, Stockleigh Pomeroy, Crediton

Thorne’s Farm Shop will be holding their annual PYO Pumpkin festival again this year, with the added bonus of a charity scarecrow trail around the farm. This is going to guarantee a wonderful family day out for all ages. Plus, if you complete the scarecrow trail you’ll also get a bag of sweets at the end! 

You don’t have to - but you are encouraged to go in fancy dress. The shop and the café will be open as usual. 

It’s open 28th October at 10:00 and closes on 30th October at 4pm. There’s no need to book and you just pay once you’ve found the pumpkins you like the best. 

West Town Farm, Ide, Exeter

Once again West Town Farm will be hosting a week of of pumpkin related fun! Other than the pumpkin patch, you can also take part in tractor trailer rides, pig feeding, a hay bale maze and the Farm Yard Café.

Entry must be booked in advance and the days are 10am to 4.30pm, 26 to 30 October, 2021. Admission charge: £5 for adults and £4 for children. Book timed entry in advance

Orway Pumpkins, Kentisbeare, Cullompton

Whether you want to pick your own pumpkin or let the children do it, there’s plenty of offer at Orway. Think hot chocolates and spiced pumpkin lattes for a start! The pumpkin patch will be open for 9 days straight from 23rd-31st, 10am-3pm and you can fill the wheelbarrows with your selection - or pop the children in it instead!

There’s no need to book - you can just turn up. 

Darts Farm, Topsham

The team at Darts Farm in Topsham, near Exeter, have been able to achieve rich pastures and thriving biodiversity through holistic land management and regenerative farming practices and are now growing more 'perfect for carving' pumpkins than ever - from Harvest Moons to Gladiators, Atlantic Giant - a 'monster' sized pumpkin - Racers and the traditional Magic Lanterns.

Booking is not required. Price varies depending on the size and the number of your pick. They are open until Sunday 31st October, 10am – 4:30pm.
