Tom Davies describes a level circular walk of 4 miles around the National Trust’s Killerton Estate at Broadclyst, near Exeter. The walk does not require National Trust membership.

In his next route Tom Davies takes us further afield to Dartmoor for a circular walk of 7.2 miles around the village of Manaton. Like most walks on Dartmoor it provides spectacular views at the cost of some serious ascents.

In his next favourite walk, Tom Davies takes us along a circular route of about 5 miles from Coldridge to Nymet Rowland and back again. The walk takes you along part of the Tarka Trail.

Crediton and its surrounding villages have a rich heritage with plenty of fascinating places to explore. Follow the town trail which tells the dramatic story of St Boniface, the town’s most famous son, visit the magnificent Parish Church built on the site of Devon’s first cathedral or pop into the museum to learn how the town was once famous for its wool industry. Nearby you’ll discover the remains of an Iron Age fort, a splendid stately home and numerous historic churches which dominate the picturesque villages of Mid Devon.

Favourite Local Walks 11 - Another circular walk in the Upper Creedy Valley

Father of three Stephen Hocking shares his experience of some of the many adventures his family have enjoyed from their home in Sandford.

Here Tom Davies describes a 3.5 mile walk which starts and finishes at the entrance to Moor Farm in Shobrooke.

Another of Tom Davies’ favourite local walks is a circular route starting in Newton St Cyres leading through Whiptail Wood and Whitestone Wood. The walk is about 5.6 miles and takes 3 hours.

Continuing his series on his favourite local walks, Tom Davies describes a walk of 4.5 miles (2 hours) along the Upper Creedy Valley with splendid views at every stage. And for even better views you can extend the walk further.

In the next of his articles about local walks, Tom Davies takes us along a figure-of-eight route that includes the chapels at Posbury and Oldridge. This walk of 4.1 miles takes approx 2 hours. It uses bridleways and footpaths and is not recommended after heavy rain.

Lewis Cottage is a hidden gem of a garden buried in glorious countryside, between the Mid Devon villages of Colerooke and Spreyton. Twenty years ago Richard Orton and his friends Michael and Penny Pell took over an overgrown one acre woodland garden and, inspired by the styles of Beth Chatto and Gertrude Jekyll, they have expanded it into beautiful informal gardens combining relaxed planting schemes and formal borders with woodland areas dedicated to attracting wildlife.
